Omari Averette-Phillips

Omari Averette-Phillips is a Ph.D. Candidate in History and African American Studies at the University of California, Davis. Omari’s research analyzes ideas of solidarity among groups of Black and white workers in the late 19th century U.S. South.

Omari is the a former labor union and political organizer as well as the former chair of the Society for Civil War Historians’ Graduate Council, former co-chair of the OAH Graduate Student Committee, a Lecturer at California State University - Chico, and one of the hosts of “New Books in African American Studies,” a podcast on the New Books Network.

Omari works closely with Dr. Benjamin Weber on the Designated Emphasis in African American Studies.
